Trina and her best friend Lucy have a running contest each year to come up with the best one-over on each other. This year, Trina's coup is pulling off an invitation to the Arcadia Island Masquerade Ball. The ball, however, isn't exactly how Trina had pictured it in her mind. Over the course of the night, she learns something about sportsmanship, love and a new angle on friendship from the most unlikely of sources. Top This was written specifically for the Masquerade anthology from Aphrodite's Apples and has been accepted for inclusion in Volume 3. When I first read the synopsis of the anthology on the Aphrodite's Apples website, I knew I wanted to write for it, even before I had read the first volume. I loved the premise. I bought Volume 1 and it cemented my decision to write this story. When Volume 2 was available, I bought that also and loved it. I'm ecstatic to be a part of this wonderful, ongoing anthology and honored to be in the company of the talented writers who have also contributed their works to this.
In Desirée Lee’s Top This, Trina is determined that this year she will win the ongoing “Top This Competition” she has with her best friend, Lucy. Forging an invitation to the Arcadia Island Masquerade Ball, she never expects to have her fantasies fulfilled. Only a special God can satisfy a character such as Trina. Desirée Lee provides readers with a great change of pace with her entertaining story. Top This is both sexy and funny at the same time. Trina’s down to earth attitude is delightful and the scene on the lanai is simply priceless. This reviewer has to admit that she wondered how Ms. Lee would find the perfect God to complement Trina’s personality, but Ms. Lee more than exceeded expectations with her choice. Top This is an exciting and clever new entry by a first time published author. Readers will want to see more by Desirée Lee after reading this one! Excerpt: When the day of the ball arrived, Trina called Lucy up. “I’m winning this year.” “Hah! You wish! Just wait until you see what I have in store for you!” “There’s one catch this year, Lucy,” Trina paused. “What catch?” “I need to enter early.” “OK, why?” “Because I have an invitation to the Arcadia Island Masquerade Ball, and it’s tonight.” Trina didn’t even try to keep the smug tone out of her voice. There was nothing but dead silence on the other end of the phone. Trina waited. Still nothing. “Lucy?” “How the hell did YOU get an invitation? It’s a fake. You cheated. Has to be.” “Let me put it like this. If I get turned away tonight, then I forfeit and you win.” Trina wasn’t about to admit the truth and lose without trying. “How?” “That’s for me to know and nobody else to find out.” “You know that there are gods who go to that ball. GODS, Trina. The kind that people drop to their knees and worship. How did YOU of all people get in there?” “I guess sometimes the gods smile on us, Lucy.” Trina grinned like mad. She knew that whatever Lucy had been planning surely would never top this. She won. She won! “Damn, I wish I could go to that.” “Sorry, Lucy. Maybe next year,” Trina snickered, still gloating. “This competition still isn’t over, Trina.
